As the title says I am keeping my head down and keeping busy. Mostly keeping out of Rennies' way although it turns out I'm not the only person in town who doesn't like him - I ran into Katie who works at her families animal dealership and she is not a fan of the Mayor either.
Katie
Apparently people in Riverbend already knew he wanted the land for his son and she warned me to be careful around him - she said although a lot of people see him as a bully at best and a thug at worst there are still a number of people round the Springs who are firmly in his camp, and he is very used to getting what he wants.
Yeah not what I wanted to hear.
But she also told me to stand my ground and not to let him run me out of town and when I said I was headed into town hall to speak to Sally, the town clerk, she advised that Sally is most definitely a Rennie fan - good to get a heads up at least.
And yeah the reception was a bit frosty.
The reason for my visit was to enquire about another plot of land that I heard is for sale - I'm a bit torn to be honest, with everything I have bought so far (the land, a tractor, a seeder, a roller, the truck and the trailer) I have a little over $354k in the bank.
Sounds like a lot of money I know but I will still need a combine and a header and something to haul my crops with as well.
And I will have no more money coming in until harvest time -and that will not be a huge sum either.
But...
I mean firstly the money is not really working for me while it is sat in the bank earning a, tiny, amount of interest and secondly I do need somewhere to store equipment - currently it is sitting around the field out in the elements - not ideal.
I guess I will need to check out the prices for the equipment I need when harvest time comes round and see how much that leaves me. I can get the field for $118k but I cant afford to leave myself with no money. I guess I will have to do some number crunching and make a decision.
Outside of all that though the good news is that my first crop is in the ground. HELL. YEAH.
My first crop is in the ground
Despite the headache of clashing with the Mayor and the major decisions I will need to make in the very near future seeing my first crop in the ground makes it all worthwhile.
You know what SCREW YOU Jim Rennie - this is my land, my farm and my home and I WILL NOT be moved by you.
Perhaps I have celebrated with one beer too many...
