New Beginning - Pops Farm Episode 3

Published on 1 December 2024 at 08:40

It's been a while since my last entry but as you can imagine I have had a lot to deal with. I laid the old man to rest and it was as awkward, sad and unavoidable as I feared it would be.

It's done though and pops left me with a good sized chunk of money what with the sale of the house and a couple of life insurances he had. I mean not enough that I never have to work again but enough for the next chapter of my life.

Deep breath...

I'm leaving Cali and starting my own farm. No I haven't gone crazy - although I am talking to myself through a journal so....

Seriously though there's nothing keeping me in Cali and I have always dreamt of seeing a bit more of America and being my own boss, I felt guilty leaving Fred but he was more than fine with it. He gave me his blessing and told me that his son wants to get more involved in the farm anyway.

So I have been spending a lot of time looking around and I have settled (at the moment) on a little place called Riverbend Springs in Ohio.

I mean it is definitely a ways away from Cali lol.

It a small town near the Tar Hollow State Forest and home to just under eight hundred people. The plan is to fly into Ross County Airport and it's a forty minute drive to Riverbend. I have tickets booked already for next weekend.

Tar Hollow State Park

Now I have not completely lost my mind - I am only spending the weekend there to take a look round and get a feel for it - If I like what I see I might just make that jump. If not I will keep looking.

I am committed to this though - pops death has taught me that nothing is for granted and I probably won't have the money to do this again.

If I fall in love with Riverbend, or anywhere else, I have a few lose ends to tie up in Cali and then yeah a new chapter in my life will begin.

I am excited and nervous in equal measures but I don't want to talk myself out of this so at the moment it is just head down and do it without thinking about it too much.

I think that will do for this weeks journaling.
