Warning - Pops Farm Episode 9

Published on 2 February 2025 at 12:33

I have a lot to report this week. I was woken up around 1am Monday morning to the sound a rock being thrown my window, it was wrapped in a sheet of paper with the message Go Home written on it.

Subtle.

I know Rennie is responsible...I mean I doubt he threw the rock himself but I am SURE he riled someone else up enough to do it for him. The local police are going to be no help I had to practically beg the sheriff to come out and then Rennie turned up as well, he came strolling up like he owns the place and I told him to get off my land. He held both hands out, the picture of a perfectly reasonable man, and launched into a spiel about his duties as Mayor to assist local law enforcement if a crime has been committed. Of course the Sheriff agreed that Rennie's help would be appreciated.

I was seething inside as he wandered into my home bold as you like and then he came out with the rock in one hand and the note in the other. I couldn't help myself I called him an idiot and accused him of tampering with evidence and destroying any fingerprints that the police might have been able to lift.

Great start to the week

Of course the sheriff stood up for him - apparently whoever threw the rock was most likely wearing gloves -when I asked how the hell he knew that he told me I need to calm down. I gotta hand it to Rennie he breezed in, tampered with the crime scene and then made it look like I was acting irrationally. I have to figure out a way not to let him get under my skin so easily.

I was fuming.

Even more so when Rennie declared it must be about lunch time and him and the sheriff made plans to go for a burger together - I enquired about my window and he said he would look into it in a way that left me in no doubt that he would not be looking into it at all. I asked is that it? - probably not the best move. He fixed me with a stare that I won't lie got rid of any other comebacks that I had in store.

"You tryin to tell me how to do my job son?" I stammered something but he was on a roll "I tell you what, when I get back to the office I will get the FBI down here for you. How does that sound? or maybe I could call up the National guard, I've heard they take broken windows VERY seriously".

And that was that him and Rennie sauntered back to their cars giving me a final glance, both of them laughing at something Rennie said - no doubt at my expense.

So yeah a shitty start to the week.

I also ended up spending some more money that I definitely shouldn't have but I bought myself a new toy.

I was still so pissed off two days later that I needed to let off steam - I got the bike at a good price and took out my anger with a half days riding in the countryside. I ain't gonna lie it felt good and let me clear my head. So clearly the sheriff is in Rennie's pocket and I have to be smarter around him. I cannot let him get into my head every time we cross paths.

And I expect we will cross paths again.

Anyway I stopped off at the diner for lunch and ran into Katie - turns out she was driving past my place and saw the sheriff and the mayor - I told what had happened and she said most likely the Russo brothers - a couple of redneck brothers who run a moonshine business on the outskirts of Riverbend and do favours for Rennie in return for him and local law enforcement taking a blind eye to their racket.

The Russo Brothers

The week just keeps getting better - I just want to settle in and run my farm, is that too much to ask for? I do not need the headache of a mayor who wants to get rid of me, a couple of local rednecks who are in his employ and a corrupt sheriff. I could cut and run but I will lose everything - Rennie has already made it clear that he will not buy the land off me for what I paid for it and if I show weakness now he will probably try and get it even cheaper.

But apart from that - HELL NO.

I have put too much into this to let him just run me out of town, all because he decided that he wants my land. I need to come up with some way of fighting back - I think I will pay Katie another visit and also Mike - I don't want to drag them into this but I need to find out who is on my side if it comes to it and if they have anything I can use against Rennie that might get him to back down.

On a side note the yard is coming along great and given everything that has happened this week I will at least sleep a little bit more peacefully knowing that my equipment will be locked up safe rather than lying exposed around the field.
